After importing links, do I need to rebuild search and/or repair tables?

Also, what happens to the incrementing value of Link ID - do I need to manually change it to account for the newer imported links, or does it use the next value according to the latest table record?

Bump ... just wondering how the Link ID value is generated when adding a new link? Is there a counter in a file somewhere, or is it taken care of by MySQL incrementing the field value?

The Link ID is just auto-incremented by the database.
