When you have new private messages it is really difficult to see if you don't have email notification on or just haven't checked your email in a while. Could there be an extra profile option to activate some kind of popup alert or something?

Do you not see '1 New!' underneath Messages in the top toolbar?

If I dont scan up to the top of the forum I'd never know I had a pm.

I found the same thing - didn't know I had a message waiting. But I'm not sure if it was only becuase I was used to the old system.

Maybe just a different mailbox graphic, so it changes to green or red or something to make it really visible would work.

Would you really want a popup on every page you visited just because you had a new private message? That would be a real pain, I think...

A good feature on webmasters-forums.com is that they've added another 'forum'. The top one is called "Private Message" and is just your private messages.

Could you try something like that? Your own personal inbox on the top of the forum page?

Well it would sure grab my attention :)

If it was a profile option then I could turn it on or off.

Could it not be limited to pop up on the main page?
