Okay, did a little testing and it seems as if Netscape won't set a cookie for a site if you specify the domain for the cookie and are accessing the site not through a subdomain (ie. just gossamer-threads.com).
Netscape will only set the cookie if you don't specify the domain field in the cookie. So:
visit: gossamer-threads.com
cookie: domain field NOT set
=> works
visit: gossamer-threads.com
cookie: domain set to gossamer-threads.com
=> doesn't work
visit: gossamer-threads.com
cookie: domain set to .gossamer-threads.com
=> doesn't work
visit: www.gossamer-threads.com (or *.gossamer-threads.com)
cookie: domain set to .gossamer-threads.com
=> works
I'm trying to find more info on this on google, but I'm just getting results about the cookie bugs which plagued earlier version of Netscape.
