Possibly discussed before.
I have a field total for all records
1) How would i get total amount for all the records, add up all the contents of the field "Total"
2) How to get a total amount by month add up the field "total" by Month
I will display them in the search results

Have you by any chance checked the DBMan FAQ? There is a category called "Calculate" that has various threads related to doing calculations within the database.

I'm sure if you look at the various threads you will get an idea of what would work best for your particular needs.
