Hi a little help please forgive my ignorance

This is possibly very simple, I have a flat file database run by dbman and would like to just and only change modify one field in a record.
I don’t need to use dbman but a stand alone procedure a sub in a external Perl cgi to access the data base when a payment is made and to change say record 2 field onlinepayment the last field to “paid”
So need to just change the 1 field and seem to have problem with doing it.
