AUTH Directory?

AUTH Directory?
Does anyone know what the numbers are in the "cgi-bin/auth" directory? I mean, I had a look in the directory and found things like "guest.94615228889710". The file contained no data, so I assume they are used to identify individual users.

Can anyone tell me how it works? How the numbers are generated? And if I can use them for anything more?

Please forgive my naivety, I am a little new at this.

the ID is generated to identify a unique login session. After a pre-set time the files in the AUTH will be deleted so that the login session is no longer valid. i guess it's for security reason.

The numbers are generated by the sub date_to_unix routine.

praiseur is absolutely correct. It is used to verify with the logoff variable in the default.cfg file to delete old sessions.
