I would like to connect three databases with the relational mod.
1. Is this possible?
2. What adjustements do I have to make?
3. Is it advantageous to create the three databases independently, get them operational and the do the relational connection?

Yes, that is the intent of the mod.

The mod itself gives instructions on what adjustments you may need to make or things to consider while building your database. There is also additional notes available in the resource center for setting up your files.

Yes, you should make sure each database is up and running before attempting to install additional mods. It really helps when things go wrong, because you'll know as your test at each stage of modifying your databases.

It's also a good idea to keep backup copies .. just in case

I would also suggest looking in the FAQ noted below and reading some of the "Learn by Example" threads within the section for "Multi / Relational". It will really help you to gain an understanding of how things work, as JPDeni was great at teaching along the way.
