qmail taking over server
q) qmail's vdeliver program is overloading my server with 8 instances of itself. this is bad. i appeal to all linux gurus from canada, the united states and all other freedom loving nations to band together and develop a strategy to fight the tyranny of gay vdeliver programs. they must be destroyed.

i am now taking advice from a select group of qmail strategists and other such experts. advice appreciated.

corporal x out.

It's not unusual to have a few instances running at the same time.

What makes you think it is overloading the server?

Hi Paul,

Server load is at 60. I have about 20 instances now that have been running ever since the emails were sent to me. And they are using cpu time. lots of it.

I can't just kill qmail-send because that exits nicely after finishing vdeliver, which is not exiting.

Hi,

You should look in /var/log/messages or /var/log/mail or /var/log/qmail to see if there are any clues as to what is going wrong.

Also, how do you have vpopmail set up? Is it using MySQL to authenticate? Perhaps your mysql tables are corrupt, or your mysql is overloaded?

Cheers,

Alex
