Dave,

Thanks for your reply. I went to their site and am not able to figure out how to download the complete version. The zip I downloaded has files dated 97.

Also, you talk about the admin. Are the admin variable configured from the browser or is it within the script itself.

http://www.xav.com/latest/search.pl
This is the new page I found however, I do not see any liks for downlaods. As far as the admin goes all see is the facility to add an url to be indexed.
http://www.xav.com/latest/search.pl

But from your thread above seems like there is a seperate admin panel to control other things.

Do you have the zipped version or can you direct me to proper url's on their site.

Thanks a lot.

Socrates,

Yes, the newest version allows you to administrate the script via a web browser.

The latest Xav scripts are located at

http://www.xav.com/latest/

The latest modified date is July 4,1999!

I wonder if Zoltan has read this thread? If the datestamp on the file is correct, then it means, Zoltan is active, and there is a chance he might be willing to incorporate some hacks posted here? Has anyone tried contacting him?

One thing that the Xav scripts need is a better forum for discussion. Those threaded message boards are a mess to read. Also, I notice that there is little activity and limited amount of "support".

It is funny that there is more discussions about that script in this Forum than over at the Xav site.

Smile

Anyone seen Lucas??? I am looking forward to see if he has been able to add some of the features he said that he was working on.

Cheers (as Alex says),

Thanks, Lucas.

In the future, you may want to consider adding a link to the scripts on your server rather than posting the whole script here. It takes time to download AND some of the codes are messed up (see the smiley face).

Could you please post the URL of the script in .txt format????

Great to hear about the forum...You will be posting the URL over at the Xav site as well, right???

(A big thanks to Alex for allowing us to continue this Topic on his server. I do believe it would be more appropriate to carry on our discussions in a site specific to Xav. Sorry for taking up space on your server, Alex.)

Thanks.

Hello, Lucas!

Good to see ya around. You can download the script from a web browser at the following location:

www.coco.cc.az.us/cgi-bin/search/srchcgi.txt

This is one of the recent versions. I did add a few things yesterday (like cleaning up the syntax so that the ASCII characters like %3F are shown as special characters, like & and $). But this version is close to the one running on our server.

I would recommend editing your post by deleting out the script. Then add a URL for where we can find your modified scripts.

One suggestion on creating your categories for the forum...make sure that they are well defined so that it will reduce double postings. Smile If you need a moderator for some of the Forums...let me know. I would be willing to do it. Smile

Thanks Dave and Eliot for responding. I downloaded the script and gave it a try. For free, I am impressed with what it can do. I have already built a nice little test database 400 external articles.

Eliot and Lucas,
By the way I like all the mods you have done - Eliot.

I am wondering if you guys plan to modify new version. I don't know perl and I like the fact that the new version is capable of indexing external sites. Especially, it brings back several other links which can be added to the index.

I will see you guys in the new forum.

Thanks

My plan is to keep modifying the hacked version I have. But I may install the new version and add the mods I have in the hacked version.

I tried the forum, Lucas, but I did not receive any email notification regarding my password or access information. Are you sure that you have the SMTP or Sendmail configurations set-up properly??

Also, since I cannot post any topics or issues in the new Xav Forum, Lucas, I would recommend that you create separate Forums for NT and UNIX. There really needs to be a separate forum for NT issues and UNIX issues.
While the Xav scripts are set-up to run on both operating systems, it would be nice to have separate places to post specific issues relating to NT or UNIX.
