Download free ODP++ 2.0
Hello,
Full version of ODP++, which is a very nice tool to display and customize content from dmoz.org, is open source and freely available on our website for personal and commercial use.

Similar to Links it has a totally customizable template based design. Another innovtive feature is the SSI emulator built in the program.

It also has a very advances custom plugin API, where you can write your own perl functions to add, modify, erase content, connect it to a database, or to any other cgi script.
Anybody interested in writing some code to integrate Links 2.0 and ODP++2.0 (both ways). I am not very familiar with links, but I would help you with any problems.

If you want to dump links into LINKS 2.0, you should be aware that you can only add up to 5,000 links.

And BTW: LINKS SQL already comes with RDF dumps for the ODP.

Hi Eliot,
No, this is not about dumping links. ODP++ does not work on RDF dump. it just downloads and displays html from dmoz.org, similar to what POD, or Anaconda is doing. My experience is that, instead of trying to manage all the links locally, real time fetching of dmoz.org pages is more efficient. The only problem was before that, you weren't able to modify the html as much as you want. I think ODP++ solves this problem. Basically you can have the same look for your links and ODP pages.

What I meant with integrating the two programs was, being able to integrate search results for example.

Well...this is more clear...What I would recommend doing is taking a look at the Altavista Mod...the newer one located in the Links Customization Forum.

Hi,

I would like know how fast is your script compare with the one at Anaconda. They always claim that they are the fastest script but I think they are too expensive.

I can only speak for ODP++. I am sure the guys from Anaconda did a good job too.
I don't have a version of anaconda available, but I am pretty sure that ODP++ is faster than Anaconda. It is very much tuned for performance. For the details you can download the source code and take a look at it. There will be a lot more tuning after adding all the planned features. I tried to minimize the scope of the regex's and used conditionals to get rid of the useless chunks of html as much as possible. Also number of disk accesses are minimized whereever it is applicable.
If a new feature added, the user always have ability to disable that function to increase speed.
ODP++ has also very nice caching ability, so that the last N (specified by the user) categories are cached to harddisk and served as if they are static pages.
If you go to anaconda's web page, you will se that they began working on a version which is similar to ODP++ in functionality.

To continue this thread, I would love to be able to display Links 2.0 results in the ODP++ output. Basically:

When a link is followed in ODP++ (Recreation/Travel etc.) the displayed page will display the normal Dmoz results plus any matches found from the Links 2.0 DB.

This would also work on the Search page.

Basically, I know custom plugins can be written for ODP++, so I wonder if any of you Guru's could tell me how to pull results from the LINKS database (or any DB!) using the category title (i.e Recreation && travel) These could match the KEYWORDS in the Links DB

Sorry if this sounds like a ODP+ question, but really its a Links question, as I need to be able to search the database!

Thanks people! Smile

Cheers!
Ben
