Qmail vs Sendmail

Qmail vs Sendmail
Hmmm I'm a bit of a qmail newbie and was wondering if it can be used in the same way as sendmail from perl scripts?

I've looked at their faq but it doesn't mention anything.

I've tried to install sendmail but it won't let me whilst qmail is installed. Ugh.

Yes. qmail and smail put symbolic links or an alias to the general sendmail paths by default. i.e., your qmail or smail setup will also be able to be accessed via /var/lib/sendmail. It will just point to qmail instead of sendmail.

When I locate sendmail from ssh I see:

/usr/sbin/sendmail
/var/qmail/bin/sendmail

....so it looks like it should already work using either of those paths. I'll have a play later.

Yes. If the default installation went smoothly then it should run 'straight-out-of-the-box' as they say.

Playing around with the new server, huh? :-)

/usr/sbin/sendmail is a sym link to /var/qmail/bin/sendmail. /var/qmail/bin/sendmail is just a tiny wrapper to /var/qmail/bin/qmail-inject, which is the way to normally insert mail via qmail.

Cheers,

Alex

So I should still be able to send mail from perl scripts using /usr/sbin/sendmail as normal?....because I'm not sure it is working.

Yes...you can create a sim link to /var/qmail/bin/sendmail

That's will work like the orginal sendmail.

I use this on my server, Qmail + VpopMail.
