Mailing List Script

Mailing List Script
I've had this Mailing List script for such a long time now and am finally wanting to use (http://server5.hypermart.net/philipclark/code.html) it. However it doesn't have one feature that I'm really after in terms
of on the "admin screen" (http://server5.hypermart.net/...ist.cgi?action=admin) [password is "password"] it says
"For your reference only, this is how your mailing list looks right now :" and shows a textarea with all the email addresses
that are in the "mailinglist.log" file. What I want to be able to do is to edit that textarea and change the values of the email addresses, i.e. add some more email addresses, delete some, modify some, etc.

Can someone please write some code that would do this for me. I guess the code would be very similar to the code written
by AstroBoy for modifiying the Log File in DBMAN but I can't seem to covert it over to this mailing list script.

The mailing list script code can be viewed here:

IMHO......It's really not even worth editing that one, because there are so many others out there that will already do what you need. All you would need to do is transfer your current email list (if you have one) into the new program. If you go check out http://www.cgi-resources.com you'll find several mailing list programs---some free others not. Just a thought.

Thanks for your response Domenic but I've already done my layout, etc for this script and I don't really want the hassle of doing it all over again.

The address I gave in the first message is without all my layout changes...

Surely this can't be that hard to do can it? Can you help write the code for me?

Yeah..I hear ya, but as far as changing the layout, I'm assuming you mean that you've already placed the
subscribe/unsubscribe forms throughout your site? Well, if your using the same form that you've given an
example of then you wouldn't have to change anything on your site. Offhand, I think the only thing you might need to change in the script is INPUT{'address'} to read INPUT{'submitemail'} and then rename the script to mailinglist.cgi. If you want this script, let me know and I'll look for the name of the site that has it and place a link here. Like I said, it doesn't really make sense to add to that script you have. It will take you less time than it took me to type this to just change out your script!

I hear exactly what you're saying as well but the script I'm using currently has a really
nice admininstration section (have a look) where you put in your message, etc.

Can you give me the address for that script though.

I'll take a look at it but I would really like some code that I can put into the current script.

Thanks again for a response Smile

Philip,

Here you go http://www.solutionscripts.com With the (free version) I think you can add, delete, modify and send out newsletters (with a nice input box and subject line) all via the admin section. I'm sure they have a (payed) version which does more. This is just one that I know of offhand and it should do all that you need. I've seen others where you can have multiple mailing list and newsletters--- and in the admin section your able to send out which newsletter and to what mailing list.....just do some digging around if you want something more that what the link above offers.

Thanks for that Domenic but I actually still prefer my current script... I wish someone could write the code for me

Thanks for taking some time out to find me another script though Smile

The main reason why I need to be able to edit/add/delete the values inside the textarea
is because every once and a while I will be adding email addresses from an access database
so I want that process made easy because people with little or no computing experience will
be doing it.

Hey Philip,

I took a quick look at the code and came up with this: http://mightyatom.virtualave.net/mail.txt
I haven't tested it, so backup your old stuff before you try it out.

On the subject, I've always preferred RobMail, (but then I guess we all "prefer" what ever we're using Smile)
It can be found at http://www.robplanet.com/download/download.cgi if you're interested. (there's no demo unfortunately)

Cheers,

- Mark
