How?
Ok, I'm not sure if anyone has any experience or knowledge in what I am going to ask, but if you do please can you help me Wink

I am trying to do like http://www.guistuff.com and http://www.flashblaster.com do with Perl. They get the form info and then create a flash animation with it. Does anyone know how they would do this? I am assuming that they use some kind of a module and an NT server so they can run Flash???

Any pointers would be much appreciated. I have looked for the module and also tutorials on how to try and do this sort of thing, but there is nothing out there Frown I have also contacted the author, but quite reasonably they were not really happy to give out how they do it...lol

Thanks Smile

it has nothing to do with the language you use, you can use any one you want to build the page. the key is figuring out how to pass form vars into flash.
to get flash to accept form information you can use various methods ranging from standard query strings to using Generator (an expensive macromedia product).

on a side note, asp is the most worthless data driven web 'language' ever created and is designed to work on the most worthless web server ever created. stick with something solid and deal with the real issue: flash.

i would do some research on passing form variables into flash. the rest is easy.

Mmmm...thanks for the input on that Gclemmons Wink

I think I will wait a bit til my new site gets a bit more popular before I look into that 'Generator' bit of software you are talking about...lol

Paul, FYI I am actually re-writing Ace Formmail at the moment. I am just getting the basic thing done now, and hopefully it will be ready for release tomorrow Smile

Heh heh....funny how I used to always get it working Wink I admit, the coding was crap, and I regret doing that thing where it removes the brackets, but the code was sound and working when I wrote it Laugh

It's actually very easy to pass variables to a Flash animation. You don't need an NT server (what were you thinking - ugh?!!).

There are a few tutorials about this on the web. Have you got a working verion of Flash installed on your system? Because I'm preety sure there is a tutorial within the Flash program about passing arguments to flash animations.

These URIs might help you =>

Paul

What are you bangin' on about? Why the hell would you need NT or a Windows based server to play flash movies?

I don't understand where you have got this into your head that you need a Windows based server to play flash animations. Can GIF files only be viewed using Compuserve Access Programs? Can MPG files only be played on a G4 Cube Macintosh?

Flash animations are not server based. They are client based programs -- that's why you need to download the flash play to be installed into your web browser. These players are available for a variety of platforms and browsers.

It does not matter what platform the flash movies are hosted on. You can put the files on a Spectrum casette for all that matters.

(You should probably concentrate on fixing AceFormMail first).
And what does this have to do with Andy's original post?? Who are you to tell him what he should concentrate on! I swear, I've seen more B.S. posts with you badgering Andy....and for what reason?? Do you think it makes you look better? Get real.....it's very unprofessional.

To be honest, I used to recommend people to Links and this site all the time, however for the past several months I am very hesitant to do so because of attitudes like this. Anyway, I'm not sure why any moderators have stepped in and said anything, but I just thought I would mention this, because I'm sure there are others that have stopped coming here for the same reasons......

Re: How? In reply to
It has to do with me and all members of this forum (although I can only speak for myself) for several reasons:

- As I stated earlier, it's very unprofessional.....to elaborate, it's very unprofessional to vent your personal attacks in a public area.
- On more than one occassion, people that I have refered to this site and/or products have mentioned unpleasant experiences within the forum.
- Last time I checked, this forum was structured around support for products that are offered here (plus other general perl, cgi, sql) related questions.....not a daytime soap.

I could continue to list additional reasons, but I'm sure you get the point.

Anyway, as for your comment "You know NOTHING about me", your right I don't and I don't come to this board or refer people to this board to find out about YOU. So before this post turns into a flame war, if you have anything personal to say to me or towards anyone else I suggest you do it privately....there is no need to publicly display your private affairs when it has nothing to do with the rest of the community/issues.

To be honest I don't care if you think I'm unprofessional - maybe that's because I'M NOT - I'm 19yrs old - I'm still a kid and if I don't wanna be professional then I won't. I'll save that for when I'm older when Im GETTING PAID to be professional and for people I think deserve respect. I am ALWAYS professional with people who ask for paid modifications/installations. I get many many requests so if I am such an as***** how can that be?
LOL...I'm going to assume you don't have that disclaimer on your site anywhere! I have nothing else to say other than...It's very obvious you have no respect for this site (GT).....
