Does anyone have a code fragment that would traverse the Unix-side directory, and present the files/directories as links similar to the default behavior of a webserver if no index.html file exists and directory indexing is on?

I hate reinventing the wheel.... and I know 100's of frags of this type of code have to exist. Anyone?
