I've just changed servers and the cgi scripts were in a cgi-local directory now they reside in a cgi-bin directory. The trouble is linking sites used my files in cgi-local so is there a work around solution to get them using the cgi-bin dir or do I have to mail them for them to change the path?

Yes, if you're running Apache, read the manual on the Alias, ScriptAlias and Redirect directives. Also see the docs for the mod_rewrite module.
