Best web page design on net ?
Hello !

I know how to create my own web site by using FrontPage. I think it is very easy for me to create a web page but it is very hard for me to create the good looking web site.

I wonder is there any book or CD Rom which show me the beautiful design web page so that I can learn from them.

Did you visit a good looking website before ? Can you list it on here ?

Thanks for any help

New Age.

That is because Front Page sucks...it inserts duplicated HTML codes, IE specific codes, etc.

Best suggestion I have is the following:

1) Learn raw HTML coding.
2) Take a graphic design and web design class.
3) If you don't want to learn HTML, then get another WYSIWYG editor that will not put as many duplicated codes and also allow you to create more professional looking web pages, like Dreamweaver Ultradev.

Buh Bye!

Cheers,
Me

Getting back to the actual question...

You can check out lots of great sites here:

You could also check out "Web Pages That Suck" for tips on how not to make a page:

Good luck!

Well, this Flash website certainly looks good.

BUT:

it took about fifteen seconds to load (and I am on a very fast university network!!!), which is way to long for anybody. People go away if the page is not loaded after a few seconds (actually, one second would be best as far as loading times are concerned!).

I'm on a cable modem and it took 2 seconds to load, but yes it would take a while with 56k - worth the wait :)

They should have used Javascript or whatever else to load the different modules in the background. Once the site was loaded I thought I could navigate, but was extremly annoyed at having to wait to download all 5 different modules to view different areas of the site.

Ugh.

Please read:

Flash: 99% bad

The Need for Speed (bottom of page for 'recent' update).

Anyway, maybe it is worth the wait, but many people will never know, because they didn't wait....

You shouldn't scare away people who are willing to visit your site.

Skipped the intro straight away. Didn't really see the need for flash at this site. Could of achieved same affect with dynamic html.

The comment page... how long did it take you to figure out that bloody box was the submit button? argh!

I don't agree with all those statements, rajakapota. Although my web site is probably amongst the worst offenders for using Flash where there is no need for it. But that comes from having designers in my firm that don't understand the way web works. And the fact that I could not get my message across effectively to them and management, therefore they won.

One day, <g>....

Nah. Just this digital crap isn't my cup of tea. Give me a nice clean looking site and you've won me over straight away. Maybe this derives from the fact that I've been on the web since the days of Mosaic, or maybe I'm just a fanatic minimilist. Hmm...

I think conspicuous should have been inconspicuous - lol...who cares.

Up to my standards? Take a quick peek at my site and you'll soon realise that I'm very lazy with standards ;-). Not wanting to get drawn into a debate about web sites. At the end of the day; I'm not a designer. I'm a developer. Although, I do have taste. Get my drift?

Just one observation I have with your site is that I see way too much text. I don't want to read that much text on the main page. I want to see relevant points highlighted to me, or focused in some way. I think you need to cut down to maybe a quarter of the text that is currently there. This comes from suggestions made to me about my sites. It's amazing how little people read on web sites. Try and get the relevant information across. Leave the rest on another page. If someone want the information, offer them a link. Otherwise don't drown the page with too much text. There isn't a focuss on your page and I feel it's too much work to read the whole job lot.

I'm partial to http://www.webmonkey.com at the moment. Not the main page, the pages within, on white background.

Hmm I guess we have opposite tastes because I find webmonkey ugly.

I like the effect on the main page with overlapping tables but I couldn't be bothered scanning through the code to see how they did it. I expect it was just td background images.

That's DHTML and absolute-postiting and all that. Brilliant stuff- a god send for all 'traditional' designers. You can place a table on the page and you are guaranteed that it will be shown exactly where you want it on all browsers (that support the technology of course). You specify where you want things with cordinates etc. You can therefore overlap images, tables, text and much more (which has thus far been impossible with HTML).

You should look into it. Or download a WYSIWG editor that supports it. It's fun playing around with this sort of stuff. Don't know how it's going to take off, mind.

Re: My site

Yeah I know there's too much text. I need more interactivity on my site as its just read read read at the moment.

The best sites are normally highly interactive.

Can't you do that with layers?

Maybe no more interactivity, but more focuss. Remember that you are selling a product after all. People want to see, feel, hear what this product can do. You should be screaming at them to try it out/see it/test drive it/compare it etc. etc. Shit, I've been listening too much to the marketing guys in the office next door
