< 4 browers and text only browsers
Does anyone have any percentages of internet users that still use a < 4 browser or a text only browser?

I'm considering with a new site I'm doing whether to check whether the visitor has a 4+ greater version browser. If they do, direct them to the main site and if they don't, direct them to a very basic text only site.

Any ideas/thoughts on this guys?

Traffic does differ across web sites, so there is no real general answer to your question. What you need to do is analyze your traffic log files...that is one sure way of finding out what browsers are most common that visit your web site.

Alex and others have posted web sites that lists web stats for prominent web sites...take a look in the Chit Chat forum.

As LoisC and others have mentioned, if you code with an HTML standard that is cross-browser compatible (like HTML 3.2), then you don't have to worry about creating separate web pages or using javascript to print browser specific codes in your pages.
