Paypal auto switches to https://..... How?
Hi All

If you plug in:

http://www.paypal.com/

it automatically converts to https://

How does it do that?

My guess is that it is some kind of rewrite thing.

Thanks Smile

They make a distinction between "outside" vs. something else (I'm assuming "inside") in their coding.

I get the non-https page (ie, outside) so I imagine it has to do with cookies. If you've already registered then they take you straight to a secured page (inside) as opposed to a 'visitor' such as myself.

Interesting. I didn't know that you could do that with cookies.

I would love some way of not allowing access to a designated page/dir unless it is accessed using https://

Just guessing... but could you use .htaccess for that (not the password part)?

Ps: although you probably don't use them, the old web2010 FAQ page is still lurking in some forgotten server somewhere.

http://faq.web2010.com

(It was a FAQ page for web2010.com which got absorbed by Hostcentric.com Although parts of it were "borrowed" from other websites, it's a pretty good FAQ page for stuff like .htaccess and https.)
