I have been trying for a while to CHMOD things on my site using the ftp command line prompt under

start > Run > FTP

I have everything I need, I do

open ftp.members.lycos.co.uk

inuchrome

******

mkdir oekaki

Then I need to CHMOD the oekaki directory to 777,

CHMOD 0777 oekaki

But I get and invalid command line

It won't let me CHMOD any of the files at all. Any suggestions?

Is Lycos servers Unix, or NT? If they are NT, it won't let you CHMOD. Your best bet is to look at their hosting FAQ's.

i'm with cyberpixels.com, and the same thing happened to me.

it didn't really specify what kind of servers they used, in relation to UNIX and NT. what should i do now?

They don't tell you at all? They use cPanel 6, which leads me to beleive its UNIX, cos I've never seen a hosting accout with cPanel that is NT.

so what should i do if it allows me to chmod, but then says it's invalid when i use that command?

when i try to chmod my oekaki folder, i get a message saying, "invalid command."

what should i do now that i know that my server is probably a unix and not nt?

Get in contact with your host.

BTW: What FTP client are you using?
