Good POP3 system?

Good POP3 system?
At the moment, my dedicated server is only using sendmail to send out emails. I am trying to get a POP3/SMTP server set up on it. Does anyone have any good tutorial sites and good bits of software that they like using, and found easy to install? Please remember I'm a complete newbie to all of this email server stuff Wink

Cubic Circle's cucipop and Qmail should get you sorted :-)

I see that I have a QMail icon in Webmin....but when I click on it there is a message saying it is not configured correctly. Is there any good setup tutorials you know of on the Net?

Thanks Smile

I've just recently done 2 server setups with sendmail and it works fine - qmail isn't essential although I know there are lots of qmail fans.

I used ipop3d as the pop server with authenticates from /etc/passwd

This should be a good place to start:

Hi,

I highly recommend QMail, Vpopmail and QMailadmin.

There is a good walk through on setting up qmail at the life with qmail site:

http://www.lifewithqmail.org/lwq.html

It's not trivial to do, but the instructions are pretty clear, and just involves careful reading and careful cutting and pasting. Basically you install qmail, then install vpopmail, and then add qmailadmin.

Cheers,

Alex

Yep. I would also recommend QMail over any other SMTP transport agent.

Oh you are so just jumping on the bandwagon because Alex said it Wink....sendmail is decent.

Right now, I'm using qmail with uw-imap and uw-pop3d. imap and pop3 are really easy to install: just compile and install. If you want to do funky stuff with qmail (eg. vhosts and 1 uid for multiple users), then you'll have to use the pop3 daemon that comes with qmail.
