Installing MySQL on Linux - Problem with 'make'.
After I configure MySQL I type 'make' and get the following error:

No target specified and no makefile found. Stop.

What do I do? Someone told me I was in the wrong directory, but that's not it. Please help me, I'm very new to Linux.

Uh...there is NO MySQL Database forum...there is MYSQLMAN, which is a GT product forum.

Scooby Dood IS posting in the correct forum.

Point being is that the thread is in the correct forum now, and that tandet's comment was not quite accurate since again, there is NO MySQL specific database forum. So, thus, it should remain in this forum.

Yeah..that could have been done when in the Links 2 forum, and then it would have been there still when moved to here. Didn't think of that though Tongue

I think Tandat meant SQL rather than MySQL but it's no big deal...don't get yourself worked up about it. He probably posted the comment about posting in the SQL forum when the thread was still in the Links 2 forum...it only seems out of place now because Andy moved it.

Scooby Dood,

There are excellent resources in the Net that can be found listed in Google, among other resources.

here is one that may help:

http://www.gnu.org/...chapter/make_16.html

Next time, try typing in the complete error message via Google's search box and I bet you'll find some helpful references. That is where I go first when I run into problems.

Scooby Dood,

having the same issues with no makefile on the install of MySQL, did you come to any solutions?

I am working with MySQL version (mySql-max-3.23.49a) and Red Hat 7.2. Thanks!
