Lightning struck my apartment building for the fifth time since last June, blowing out all our networking hardware except the cable modem. odd, eh? why wasn't the modem blown like the router and network cards? they were on the same surge supressor too.

What brand/model surge supressor do you have? Shouldn't a decent one protect you from lightning strikes?

It's a Fellows but I don't recall what the joule rating on it is. The sucker was $25 so it definately wasn't one of those cheap ass no-protection power strips. it seems that might not be the issue though. I followed the cable line all the way to the outlet and realized that was never on a surge supressor. That'll be fixed.

Another thing to note is that all the computer monitors picked up a green tint on one side of the screen; it also happened to my friend's TV that was turned off during the storm. I've degaused a few times and turned off my monitor for a while, but it's still slightly noticeable.
