Since when does a chit- chat thread stay on topic? LOL

Speaking of Newton, have you tried InkWell on Jag yet? I wonder how far the technology has come along since Newton?

Where have you been? :-)

These ardverts are so famous on the Net by now. A load of sites have been copying them and coming up with their own versions, there are a number of funny ones around. Do a quick search on slashdot to find some links to them.

Update: Here's the slashdot link:

To some geeky ones on why you should switch from Python -> Perl, vim -> vi, etc:

And there's a massive number of other sites making their own funny versions too:

That's a really powerful marketing tool for the Mac, as from my own experience with folks, the number one reason they don't switch is "will my word documents be compatible / be able to open on a Mac?"

Yea, Macintosh had huge marketing/advertising campaign in the USA in the past few months showing different IT related professionals (even an UNIX Administrator and a Windows Network Administrator) supporting the move to Macs.

I beleive the latest advertising campaign has cost the company $25 million. Though that is nothing when you consider they have $6 billion in cash. Not as big as M$, but respectable for the si*e of the company.

Yep, I too am a switcher... well I still have PC equipmetn I will use, but my main reason for switch is the new OS.

Yes, that will probably be the reason for me too. The new OS X is super sexy! I don't have very advanced desktop needs at all. I'm running a Debian box for all my development needs, so my Desktop needs are ever so basic. I don't mind what platform I use, so I might give a Mac a go very soon. I gotta say I fancy one of those ibooks :-)

Excellent Wil!

Don't forget to join my Macscripts forum too ehWink. I don't think anyone has posted in the ibook forum yet... could be wrong.

There is good and bad to everything, but OS X has everything I need already built into it. And I can run all the graphics programs I use currently, and get a nice 17" lcd screen to boot. So I am happy about my decision. With the number of hours I spend in front of a computer I want to be happy with the expereince, looks and ease.... so yeah, I think it is worth the $$.

Dell has done me well for the last 3 1/2 - 4 years though. Good work dell, but I'm going to Apple now.

Edit: QooQ has an ibook!

My colleague in work has a titanium ibook which has seriously swayed my judgement about Macs recently. The only downside in his eyes is that the titanium versions of the ibook are not good for wireless networks as the titanium actually resists some of the radio waves, but I'm sure it's not that bad. We'll see.

Your macscripts forum? Hm. I don't develop any code, well I don't run any code on my desktop machines, I'll stick to my debian-user mailing list for now, thanks. :-)

Yep, I'm a 14" 600 iBook user.

It's pretty sweet. Portable and what not.

The TiBooks are really great if you need it's power and if you don't mind the large size of the book itself.
14" is a tad big to carry but when it's on your desk I'm quit happy.

Need unix apps? Install a port. Like X11 ? no prob. Want to run rootless ? sure why not.

The unix appeal was really strong for me and BSD has done me well.

openoffice + gimp + sketch ... Smile
