Found an article about this in my Popelectronics mag. High Tech MP3
player that you can either buy parts for and assemble yourself or buy a
tested set and the code to compile everything like Eprom is open source. This is
in my opinion one of the coolest MP3 players anyone could ever get. I mean, it's
not pretty but you use your own hard drive and in the article it says if you use
the maximum capacity drive of 137 GB, that's 91 days of music. There's no
special compression or anything. You take the drive out and hook it up to the
comp with the music transfer the music to the drive with windows explorer or any
other tool like such and then take the drive out and hook it back up to the
circuit board and the thing will scan the drive, including directories, and then
play the songs. It's completely customizable since it is open source, although
the kit isn't free. I just wanted to know/see what you guys think and if anyone
has heard of this project before.

BTW... It also uses a 72 pin simm memory stick. Has the 40 pin
connector slot for the drive or a smaller one for a laptop drive. So
cool!

who really cares. If you hooked this thing up in a car, that's some serious space. IMO and probably die hard mp3 player people's opinions, its not always how it looks, but what it can do. I'd rather get this then some Ipod or whatever, where It can only work on mac or whatever the latest big space one is for pc's. This, the fully assembled thing is 150 and then get whatever drive you want. Which don't cost much now. 40 gigs are down to less than 100. I believe that is more than any mp3 player out allows.

pretty ugly monster isn't it .... but, if you're driving a beat up piece of shit for a car .... you could cut a whole in your dash and mount the screen somewhere .... hmmm not a bad idea.

cheap too.

For your car I'd get one but ... for jogging, plane rides, and what not the iPod still winds out although it's still too expensive. friggin apple. Next year, it looks like apple while prepare software for M$ users.

Now, anyone of you heard of the latest Apple industry making device?

Sorry Andy but I couldn't find a better discription for my car !!! Laugh

ahhhm hell the read left fender is rusted, I'm on my second engine and transmission, I've been hit front, back and on the same rear side twice since I bought that thing. My winter tires are hand me downs on top of it!!!

beat up = 4 accidents all not my fault!
piece of shit = engine and transmission transplants ... + other various electronical switches ... it wouldn't start during hot days in summer ... pretty sad when you have about 40 students (I teach at a high school which is 90% girls) ... doesn't help my image.

haha, I thought I had a got and accurate discription going there ... Tongue

I didn't think the whole meaning of portable audio meant fitting in your pockets. Otherwise, I wonder why so many people have been and are still buy cd players which I can't certain about but am kind of sure that they don't fit in you pockets. Smile

It is kinda nice though being able to have a small(ish) player that is portable. I think if I was on the bus with that thing perched on my lap I may get a few funny looks Angelic

Well they said that they are developing a case for it that will be the size of a removable hard drive so I don't think you would have to look that foolish with wires and cables hanging out.
