Fastest computer processor....
I've been looking around to see what kinda specs the computers are up to now. The best I have seen to far is 1Gb RAM, PIV 2Ghz Processor, 60Gb Harddrive, modem, and all the other normal stuff. Anyone know if there are faster ones on the market? I'm just researching, cos I wanna get a new computer soon.....my 1.2Ghz just ain't up to it anymore Wink

I've heard of 2.4ghz with a few gigs of ram...

>>60Gb Harddrive<<

You can get a few hundred gigs if you shove a few hard drives in one machine.

1.2ghz doesn't cut it? You're kidding. Mine is 1ghz and is like shit off a shovel.

When you have lots of programs open (its not unusual for me to have 8-10 programs running in the status bar, and then 10 or more on the start menu)...then yeah, it doesn't cut it Wink

God...imagine defragmenting that sized hard drive!

wow, 1gigmhz and above feel slow ? hmmm ... I can understand games ... but ...

G4 400 with 576megs of ram ... handles easily 25-30 apps including photoshop/illustrator ... memory hog IE and such ...

although 400 is starting to sound ... like a 50cc motorcycle these days.

ahhh peer pressure! Angelic

wainting for the G5 ... lol .... mac user to the end hahahaha. Crazy

my sister is looking at compaqs right now ... lol ... not a bad deal ... but she's stuck between 2 dream machines the new iMac and the upper class sony vaios ... can't blame her; both are just sweet looking.

openoffice + gimp + sketch ... Smile

If you have a lot of programs open, go for dual AMD Athlon MP's, and that new Ram, RD-Ram or DDR-Ram or whatever its called (Can never remember things like that at 2am). The new Ram's a lot better then SD-Ram, so that dual MP 1800's should be fine. SCSI Harddisk will help as well.
Cheers,

Thanks. I was looking at building the computer myself, but it looks like it would work out way more expensive. I'll take in consideration that stuff about the RAM. I've noticed I loose a lot of RAM with M$N Messanger (blooming thing Tongue)

Heh, unfortunatly I cannot... I'd get fired for that :)

But...the above prices are still decent (though maybe not the absolute cheapest), and that's regular price.

Seriously though, the company's niche is small to medium sized businesses, so if you did need to outfit some equipment, you could always call and talk to a salse rep to see what kind of deals they have etc

[this didn't start out to be an advertisement, I swear! Sly]

Here's the prices of something similar that I can get locally (in CDN$):
Tyan S2462UNG: Dual-K7 760MP Max/3.5G Regi-DDR, ATX, U160 scsi, 10/100LAN, AGP4x $725
- you might want to get no scsi onboard and get an scsi card since the cdrom's need 50 pin scsi.
Antec SX1040 File Server Tower case W/400W, 10 BAYS $220
- nice roomy case with a good power supply
2x AMD MP1900+ CPU $495 * 2 = $990
2x Volcano-6Cu $14 * 2 = $28
3x 512M DDR-PC2100: 266mhz ECC Registered $260 * 3 = $780
Seagate Cheetah-X15: ST318452LW 18G 4M 15000rpm Ultra160 68pin $540
- you need some good cables a long with this. you probably want 2 (or more) and RAID0 (and if the data is EXTREMELY important, RAID5) and a nice hardware raid card (the mylex cards look nice)
Toshiba internal SCSI-3 12x DVD/40x CD-ROM $200
Yamaha CRW2200SVK 20x/10/40x CD-RW drive SCSI-3 $320
Visiontek GeForce-3 Ti500 64M DDR w/TV-out, DV-i AGP4x (retail) $565
Sound Blaster Audigy value with i1394 port $100
- why get old sb live 5.1 when you can get an audigy? you need speakers too!

Total: $4468 + 14% = $5094

No monitor, keyboard, or mouse either...

Adrian

Jeepers, just seen a mailing drop on my desk.

Intel Pentium 4 1.6GHz
256MB SDRAM
40GB Hard Drive
48X CD-ROM Drive
12 Months On-Site Warranty
17" Flat Panel Display !
DVD/CD-ReWriter

... £449.

Now that is a bargain.

[ btw: why is the advanced editor BG color blue while the basic one is green? ]

I`m just building a new box, I got the bits cheap from aria.co.uk

Abit VP6 board - dual P3 1Ghz each with 256 onboard cache, gives me 2Ghz with 512 onboard cache. This board supports up to 8 IDE, raid 1 and 2 and costs £104

2 x 40Gb IBM ATA 100 7200rpm 8ms seek time - £80 each

2Ghz SDRAM 133 - £120 gone up thoughFrown

ATI Radeon DDR 64Mgb, dual display + Svideo £50

This baby needs a flying licence. Wink

PS beleive it or not the P3 1Ghz is better than a P4 1.4Ghz due to micron size or something. Intel aint telling us that though.
