How do I add a favicon icon to replace the default browser icon in the title tab?

The generic instructions on line indicate that you can copy the .ico file to the root of the website. I tried copying to the /www folder but that does not appear to work.

Can anyone tell me where I need to copy it, or if I need to edit one of the html files?
