Links SQL only shows category results if search term is three letters or less

Has anyone come accross a situation like the following or have an idea what is causing it?

Links SQL 2.2.0 only shows category results if the search term is three letters or less.

For example if I search for the word "smile" I get the actuall links returned. If I search for "smi" Only Categories are returned.

Any ideas?
