Can someone direct me to a decently written HOW TO on programming for Links SQL? Something a bit more detailed than the Admin Manual PDF that was bundled in the download?

I want to timestamp a user account creation, calculate a date n days in the future, and store that value in another field, for reference by other functions. I'm sure there are other things I'll want to do, but don't know where to begin.
