Yeah, it's a very strange little bug. The Technotes has been updated now on the MS website to warn people that it might cause slowness.

It has only caused slowness on one machine for me, and that's an AMD Ahtlon processor. All my Intel machines have carried on working fine, if it's got anything to do with the chip I've got no idea.
