Can this forum software work on a membership site?

I need a public forum and a membersonly forum. I have an online car club with 3,000 paid members and 4,500 forum users. I imported UBB6 into a test forum I am evaluating, but am not sure how to restrict access to half of the forum categories to membersonly.

Is there a way to configure it this way? Are any other webmasters doing this with gossamer?
