1. If you select "HTML", you can still make .shtml pages by choosing the filyename approriately (i.e. contact.shtml).
2. This is already implemented: have a look at the templates pb_default_xxx.html. Whenever you define a new page, the corresponding template will be taken. E.g if you define a simple page with page name "contact", the template "pb_default_simple.html" will be copied to "contact.html".
