I was just hired by a client to do a password protection script of sorts. Authentication is handled by .htaccess. I was not informed of how much traffic this guy pushes before I did the job. Now come to find out, he has had around 1500 people join in the last 24 hours and expects more when he actually starts putting some serious traffic through the script. My question is how many entries can .htaccess deal with? After all, a .htpasswd file is just a text file. What are some other alternatives to standard .htaccess?
