Went to the in-laws!
Ate lots of food, watched TV, played with the dog, and watched my father-in-law pass out from too much Sake
I followed too -- slept for about 2-3 hours on the floor
note: in Japan, X-mas and New Years are switched -- X-mas for young couples and New Years is spread out over 3 days -- eating. drinking and just being lazy. You also go to the local shrine (you know with those cool looking red arches) during this time to pray to the gods for heatlth, good luck, etc ... Of course, you can always find a count down party. This year I crawled back home and watched TV with the wife (Japan has a zero-tolerance drinking and driving policy -- although previouly pretty relaxed the police decided to go out in force this year !!! bummer)
