home not updating link count

home not updating link count
My home page has listed the same amount of total links and each category has had the same total for weeks now. When I add a new link the link shows up in the category but the total links and number of links for that category do not change, also when I add a category it seems to go through fine but never appears on the page. Any ideas whats going on?
