Well, a tip o' the hat goes to ReadyHosting.com. I was so *issed off, I was spitting bullets. I still need to fix a few assorted links (no pun intended), but basically it's ssssmokin'...
As it turned out, when ReadyHosting (pre)configures a 'cgi-bin' for you, that's where you HAVE to run your scripts --- period. At my old hosting service, you could run scripts in any WinNT directory. I had 'bins' all over the place.
Secondly, and most importantly, ReadyHosting found the secret to password protecting WinNT directories without resorting to 'child webs' and all that bravo-sierra. They password protected our ADMIN directory and it works perfectly --- first time/every time.
A nice byproduct of all this is that the search engine submission hounds have lost our scent. We've only had one submission in the last couple of days, instead of 100's.
Anyway, this is a total gas. It almost feels like "the first time; the very first time" all over again.
