I experienced problem after installation that admin area didn't accepted any addition of categories or links. So here is what I found:
in links.cfg for $db_dir_url, $db_cgi_url and $build_root_url I used URL without www. and it didn't work. Problem will be probably in DNS so ...
... I added www. to all those URLs and script work perfectly.

Hope this will help to many newbies as I found this problem listed on bunch of pages in this forum and nobody gave this solution in reply :)
