I do not know how to password protect ADMIN section? Please help!

Thanks a lot Lotto. I found the problem my htaccess was turned off by my ISP. So I asked him to turn it on and he said he'll do so for me. Anyway big thanks to you Lotto!

I am having a difficult time trying to password protect my admin dir. I can get .htaccess to protect the directory, but when I type in my user name and password. It does not work. I have tryed everything, what now?

In the links resources section there is a site that will automatically make the files that you need for your password protection.
Just put these files in your admin directory.

I translated the webpage and did what it told me. It did not work. I used the path cgi-bin/links/admin do u have to use an absolute path or what please help!

Unfortunately, I also do not "spreken zie duetch" either. "Canadian Eh" is my native language

The webmaster of that site has been thoughtful enough to provide us with the English version of the form just below the German one .. just scroll down the page a bit.

In the first field <Full path to the directory you want to protect> put in your Full Path to your links admin directory ie your site's version of:
/usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/lottotutor/cgi-bin/links/admin
(do not add a trailing "/")
In the second field <Username> put whatevername
In the third field <Password/admin> put your password

The form will then make the contents of two files for you... ".htaccess" and ".htpasswd"

Copy and paste the info into a text editor like notepad and save the files as the above two named, then ftp them up into your links admin directory.

You should now have a password protected admin directory.

One final note. You may have to type in the username and password a few times to access all three frames of the links admin page.
