I'm surprised that there is not another thread with this title.

I have an older site that is on GLinks. It's being hit by registration spam. How do I stop this? Is there a setting, a plugin or something?

user_validation
Does a user have to be validated before they can sign up? This will make Gossamer Links send the user an email with a validation code that they will need to enter before the user is activated.

Or is there something else I am missing?

My site has the same problem and I used to have 'validation code' enabled, which was generating 'undeliverable email' messages due to the type of non existent spam email addresses being used.


I switched to 'not send validation code' to stop the 'undeliverable email messages' because I was concerned that the hosting provider would flag my site as sending spam in the form of validation code emails that were 'bouncing'


Is there a solution to this?

Hi,

I found myself in the same situation for past couple of weeks, unfortunately turning off email confirmation wasn't an option so I had to come up with something else. And the result is captcha plugin which takes advantage of Google's reCAPTCHA API.

Simple, fast and no additional software needed ;)

To edit the core code of GLinks? It's definitely possible but i don't advise you to do that!

I hacked in my own captcha.... you have to add two numbers together.
