I know that the ability to handle traffic is more or less subject to server resources, but...

I hope to be working for a local TV station and they claim that some affiliates (during times of bad weather)can have more than 500,000 page hits in one day. Would DBMan stand up to this kind of abuse or would I need to look in to the SQL version?

I really don't know. The only thing I know is that file size makes a difference and that, if your .db file is going to be greater than 1M, it's a good idea to go with the SQL version.
