How can we protect the base
How can we protect the ****.db file ?
It must be readable by all, but if you don't
want people to download it to us it elsewhere

If it's in a cgi-bin, it won't be readable or downloadable. This is what you want. You don't want people to access it, yet you want the script to be able to.

Doing this for NT is much trickier. Let me know if this is on an NT server.

You can also put all your files other than db.cgi below your root web accesible directory.
