Fields within the Users Table and email
Hello all,
Forgive me is this has been asked before but I've done several searches in the Links SQL forums to no avail. This has to do with Links SQL Email function. I want to create an email (text versoin - template if possible) to go to selected users. Within the body of the email I'd like to use <%Username%> and <%Password%> to automatically insert the username and password of the selected users I'm emailing. However, when I use these fields, it doesn't work. In each test email I've received the line is displayed as:
Username: <%Username%> Password: <%Password%>
What did I do wrong? I tried with all lowercase as well to no avail.

Within the Help file for Email it says: All mailings can be saved as templates so they can be used continuously without having to re-input the text or re-used with slight variations and saved under a different template name. Any fields within the Users Table can be inserted into the mailings with the use of tags in this example form: <%username%> or <%email%> in order to personalize the mailings.

If a thread on this already exists, I'd appreciate the link but so far when I've seen this question asked - the response is that you can use the fields from the Users Table but I don't find that it works for me. Can anyone help, please? I don't want to have to send out these emails individually. Unsure

Thanks in advance!

Okay... I found out that I can insert the User Fields and they'll pull the information just fine when I'm using a template from the Mass Mail / Selected Users option but when I use a template from the Custom Lists options it won't work. Any idea why that would be?

Thanks,
Nadine

I've never used this option in Links SQL, but isnt the 'custom list' the list where people subscribe via subscribe.cgi? If so, then the reason you can't use those tags is because they wont have usernames/passwords. Do you see what I am saying? Unsure

Hi Andy,
Thanks for your reply. I was under the impression that the subscribe.cgi was for the Newsletter signup not the Custom List. I'm really at a loss regarding detailed info about the Email functionailty of the Links SQL program. All I can go by is what little information is offered and wing it. What I do know is that with Custom Lists one can create a list - manually entering email addresses. I assumed that because these email addresses were in the database that the program would retrieve their info from the database if the email contained user codes. Now I can see that was wrong. So, I'll just use the Selected Users option to email to a particular group of users and all's well that end's well. Thanks again!
