CGIWRAP - Line 27 links.cfg
Hello,
I have installed quite a few Perl scripts in my day and age, but unfortunately the Links script is causing a real problem. Using CGIWRAP, and calling the script within a directory is just not happening !
When I call the script, this is the error message I get:
Error including libraries: /public/ftpname/cgi-bin/links/admin/links.cfg did not return a true value at /export/public/htdocs/ftpname/cgi-bin/links/admin/admin.cgi line 27
Make sure they exist, permissions are set properly, and paths are set correctly.

I am using the following in links.cfg:

$db_cgi_url = "http://www.publicdomain.com/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/ftpname/links";

Does this seem right? Permissions are correct, so what seems to be the problem? If anybody can help me, I'd be grateful.

Thanks,
Mumba

try using the following:

Code:
$db_cgi_url = "http://www.publicdomain.com/cgi-bin/ftpname/links";

Use the cgiwrap directory in the path variables.

Eliot,

Thank you for your prompt reply, however the script still doesn't seem to like cgiwrap. I'm obviously doing something wrong since I'm still getting the same errors. Strange though ... I have yet to find a script I can't install. I even ran a few tests with the code to make sure I didn't forget a quotation mark or something.

I'd probably require an example to show exactly how to call a script in the cgi-bin which is inside another folder (in this case
/cgi-bin/links/admin/admin.cgi). I have checked your FAQ's but I seem to be the only person with this problem. Although cgiwrap is a good thing, I do find it a pain in the butt !

Note: The permissions are set correctly ).

Regards,
Mumba

Well, I am not that familar with cgiwrap since I do not have to use it in my server.

One suggestion...contact your ISP or hosting company for information on how to run LINKS with cgiwrap.

Regards.

The saga continues ...

I contacted my ISP, and I will quote the answer from the Web master.

"Sorry, I have no idea. I never had to use cgiwrap.
Did you try a full path in the require line?"

So - an ISP makes you use cgiwrap, but they don't have the answers on how to use it ... Things that make you go hmmm.

I have also contated http://www.unixtools.org/cgiwrap/
No help. They can't understand the problem.
I might contact http://www.dotmatrix.net/ out of frustration.
They claim that they are able to install the Links script for a small fee or your money back.
I don't feel like paying anything to see somebody go around in circles. I feel I know what I'm doing. Like I said in my first post, I have installed enough scripts to know my way around. 90 percent of the time I even find small errors in the scripts !

What's with this #@$%&!!! CGIWRAP. I am this close to changing ISP's. I really want to get this script up and running. It looks fantastic !

I seem to be having the same problem.

have tried:

http://www.mindspace.org/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/minds/links/admin/admin.cgi

Still get an ERROR 500 in my browser. Have reuploaded and set permissions several times. Still no luck. Would love to run this script!

If your hosting company cannot provide you technical support, then you are in for a world of trouble....My honest opinion...switch hosting companies.

I am using a Cobalt Qube with Apache and CGIWrapper installed. I have the same problem, but with the (cool?) error message

Error Message: Text file busy
Error Number: 26

One thing i know in using CGIWrap is that you do not have to use chmod 777 --> use only chmod 755 ... elsewhere there comes an error.

Any suggestions for the above error?

thanks
stefan
