One possible solution to the endless wait for Forum 2.0: open source the forum software.
It doesn't look like it is coming out anytime soon anyway, and in the meantime, other open-source forum software is surpassing it in features and quality.
I'm not sure open sourcing the forum software will save it, but at least the users can have a crack at it.
What do people think?
