How to remove Â in the SQL database

Hi after a systems crash i had to reinstall a 75 Meg sql data file form backup, a years work and happy to have the back up.
However now everywhere in the database before the £ sign as i am in the UK i have

Â£ I just want £

How do i get rid of the is Â character in all the mails and showing before all the £ signs?

Any help would be appreciated.
