from: links.cfg
# PATH and URL of Admin CGI directory. No Trailing Slash.
$db_script_path = "c:/user/tripod.com/password/links2/cgi-bin/admin/admin.cgi";
$db_dir_url = "http://kol16.tripod.com/links2/cgi-bin/admin/";

# URL of User CGI directory. No Trailing Slash.
$db_cgi_url = "http://kol16.tripod.com/links2/cgi-bin/";

# PATH and URL of Pages to be built. No Trailing Slash.
$build_root_path = "c://user/tripod.com/password/links2/pages";
$build_root_url = "http://user/tripod.com/links2/pages";

# PATH and URL of What's New page. No Trailing slash.
$build_new_path = "$build_root_path/New";
$build_new_url = "$build_root_url/New";

# PATH and URL of What's Cool page. No Trailing slash.
$build_cool_path = "$build_root_path/Cool";
$build_cool_url = "$build_root_url/Cool";

# PATH and URL of What's Rating page. No Trailing slash.
$build_ratings_path = "$build_root_path/Ratings";
$build_ratings_url = "$build_root_url/Ratings";

is this correct?

Some more:
if i click on add, it produces: HTTP 400 Bad Request error, and went to this link:
http://kol16.tripod.com/links2/cgi-bin/admin/templates/<%db_cgi_url%>/add.cgi

someone somewhere please help.

Thanks

The reson why it does not work is because tripod does not support cgi. Thats my understanding. I could be wrong. Also you can not just upload perl to tripod they must do it on the server end. Sorry but you are not going to be able to use this on a tripod site.

yep. you're right. But now i got one from netfirms.com. My problem now is the link is not working. it produce link like this:http://kinabaluonline.netfirms.com/<%db_cgi_url%>/add.cgi.

some more:Remember to use double quotes around the path.
The full path to your www directory would be:
"$ENV{'DOCUMENT_ROOT'}/www"
The full path to your cgi-bin directory would be:
"$ENV{'DOCUMENT_ROOT'}/cgi-bin"

where to put this info.
please stone2j
thanks

sounds like you have en error in your config file. Perhaps your link to where perl is located is wrong. Please post your config file so i can look at it.

Re: installation problem win98-totally blackout In reply to
thanks for replying: actually i dont know which is config file. But if it is link.cfg, then please check below:

01. PATH and URL of Admin CGI directory. No Trailing Slash.
$db_script_path = "$ENV{'DOCUMENT_ROOT'}/cgi-bin/admin/admin.cgi";
$db_dir_url = "http://kinabaluonline.netfirms.com/cgi-bin/admin/";

# URL of User CGI directory. No Trailing Slash.
$db_cgi_url = "http://kinabaluonline.netfirms.com/cgi-bin/links";

# PATH and URL of Pages to be built. No Trailing Slash.
$build_root_path = "$ENV{'DOCUMENT_ROOT'}/www/pages";
$build_root_url = "http://kinabaluonline.netfirms.com/www/pages";

# PATH and URL of What's New page. No Trailing slash.
$build_new_path = "$build_root_path/New";
$build_new_url = "$build_root_url/New";

# PATH and URL of What's Cool page. No Trailing slash.
$build_cool_path = "$build_root_path/Cool";
$build_cool_url = "$build_root_url/Cool";

# PATH and URL of What's Rating page. No Trailing slash.
$build_ratings_path = "$build_root_path/Ratings";
$build_ratings_url = "$build_root_url/Ratings";

02. Do we have to move those template files to www dir (ie. away from the existing template dir?)

thanks again

It doesn't look like you have anything set wrong. The error you are getting looks like the cgi files are not being executed properly. My only suggestions would to check to see if all premission are set as specified for files and directories. Also you may want to chnage all .cgi extentions to .pl other than that I am not sure what you can do. I am somewhat new to perl so my experence is limited.

Firstly, home.html goes in your template folder. It's a TEMPLATE, not a regular html file. Read the README again...(or for the first time)

Second, REMOVE #!/usr/bin/perl from any file NOT a .cgi file.

Third, I would suggest finding out your real path. You shouldn't use ENV variables, IMO

Fourth, the paths and URLS should not contain the name of the file "/admin.cgi".

Fifth, you have not set any email options. You have not set the sendmail/smtp variable or the admin email address.

Sixth, if in fact you are on a Windows server, you need to turn flock off and IIS on.

Seventh, POP-UP banners suck! And the one's on your site kept freezing my browser while loading.

Lastly, I would highly suggest taking a few tutorials, getting a book, and experimenting with less complex programs before attempting to use this script again.

i think i'm 60% on the way. i encounter new problem when i click add from my site: please check below:
Error including libraries: Can't locate kinabaluonline/cgi-bin/admin/db_utils.pl in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.6.0/i686-linux /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.6.0 /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.0/i686-linux /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.0 /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl .) at add.cgi line 31. Make sure they exist, permissions are set properly, and paths are set correctly.

things tt have done:
1.all permission are set according to the README file.
2.Transferring using ASCII mode
3.i use #!/usr/bin/pearl (given by server) instead of #!/usr/local/bin/perl .
4.removed all #!/usr/bin/perl from not a cgi file.

please help
(happy coz i manage to change the site title.)
