Can someone help me?

Can someone help me?
Hey everyone!
I'm sure you all know that..I installed Links 2.0 but I'm so confused about how to do everything. I upload Links 2.0 to my server but I have not a clue how to get the links up and running. I read the Read-Me, and I'm hoping someone here could possibly help me. Again, I'm a little bit dumb when it comes to cgi-bin and I'd appreciate any help that I could get regarding how to set up Links 2.0
Thank you,
Chloe

There is a list of installers in the resources section who can install Links2 for you if you are having difficulty.

Thank you, but I have no money so I can't pay either of the websites for their services. That is why I'm asking for someone to help me. I'm a teenager:)

Cool!Smile Yeah I'll just have to check with the person who hosts' the links site to see if I can give out the password. And figure out what
Location of SendMail on your server and
Location of Perl on your server
Because I have not a clue where the PERL is on the server or the SendMail(whatever that is)
And..can I make my own link graphic to link to your site before I sign up?

1) Most likely you do not have SENDMAIL package installed in your server (may be Blat Mail or WinMail, but I doubt it), so you woujld have to use SMTP...like

yourdomain.com

for the SMTP variable config in the links.cfg file.

2) Your hosting company should have online documentation about what Perl path to use. Search your hosting company's web site for Perl within the custom scripts section of their web site.

Although for most Windows Servers, you should not have to specify a Perl path.

Buh Bye!

My domain host said that .pl files would execute wherever they are put. I am having a big problem trying to understand why my directory gets this error message:

http://www.willowywisps.net/cgi-bin/links/cgi-bin/admin/admin.cgi

Permissions are set and the path is right (I'm quite sure) but the

"Can't locate http://www.willowywisps.net/cgi-bin/links/cgi-bin/admin/links.cfg in @INC (@INC contains: D:/Perl/lib D:/Perl/site/lib .) at d:\html\users\WillowyWispsnet\html\cgi-bin\links\cgi-bin\admin\admin.cgi line 23."

message is all I get when I load the admin.cgi
Blush

Anyone's consideration would be tremendously appreciated.

Jane

PS I *like* this forum.

Thats because you are using a URL instead of a path.

[/reply]Thanks for the response! My post was not clear. I haven't learned to manipulate around this forum yet so that explains that. My website is

http://www.willowywisps.net
The admin path is

http://www.willowywisps.net/...-bin/admin/admin.cgi

and

d:\html\users\willowywispsnet\html\cgi-bin\links\cgi-bin\admin\admin.cgi

is my links2 admin path.

When I load http://www.willowywisps.net/cgi-bin/links/cgi-bin/admin/admin.cgi in the browser, I get the errors.

Permissions are set and the path is right (I'm quite sure) but the

"Can't locate http://www.willowywisps.net/cgi-bin/links/cgi-bin/admin/links.cfg in @INC (@INC contains: D:/Perl/lib D:/Perl/site/lib .) at d:\html\users\WillowyWispsnet\html\cgi-bin\links\cgi-bin\admin\admin.cgi line 23."

I've worked some more since posting here. NOW I get a bigger mess. It may be time to get a rest. And a tuna sub.

Paul,

What is the procedure for allowing others into one's site? That seems a bit risky to me.

If I could get help with installation with just some review of the code and paths I have I wouldn't mind paying a small fee at all. I am not so sure about someone being in my sites admin functions though.

How is that usually done with security intact? There are permissions that can be set with frontpage. Maybe that's it?

Most learners (such as I) aren't savvy enough to change administer access once a task is accomplished.

I would like to know the normal routine for installation services. If you care to take the time.Crazy
