Paths are driving me nuts!

Paths are driving me nuts!
I am trying to get my paths correct and have reviewed a pile of previous posts. None show this exact error. Note my links.cfg file settings and then the paths in the error. The error shows both / and \ but my settings are all / 's. I have tried a number of variations including the removal of the / before the W:, adding www to the path as the error shows, and a few others. The path was provided by my hosting provider.

# PATH and URL of Admin CGI directory. No Trailing Slash.

$db_script_path = "/W:/inetpub/wwwroot/pware/cgi-bin/links/admin";
$db_dir_url = "http://www.pware.com/cgi-bin/links/admin";

# URL of User CGI directory. No Trailing Slash.
$db_cgi_url = "http://www.pware.com/cgi-bin";

# PATH and URL of Pages to be built. No Trailing Slash.
W:/inetpub/wwwroot/presentware/resource
$build_root_path = "/W:/inetpub/wwwroot/pware/resource";
$build_root_url = "http://www.pware.com/resource";

Error is below

Error including libraries: syntax error at W:\inetpub\wwwroot\pware\www\cgi-bin\links\admin/links.cfg line 30, near "/inetpub/wwwroot"
Compilation failed in require at W:\inetpub\wwwroot\pware\www\cgi-bin\links\admin\admin.cgi line 27.
Make sure they exist, permissions are set properly, and paths are set correctly.

If anyone can shed some light on this it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Since you are on a NT server, you need to start your paths with the drive letter colon, like:

W:/

NOT /W:/

Please re-read my original post. "I tried a number of variations including the removal of the / before the W:" . In other words, I have already tried it both ways. What I really don't get is why the set up shows one path yet the error shows another ( a mix of / and \ ) . Any other thoughts?

there shouldn't be any beginning "/". Aside from that, both "/" and "\" are correct; they're interchangeable. "\" is the Windows-style path (actually "\\" when double quoting), while "/" is the Unix-style path. I have a feeling that problem exists a few lines above where Perl says it is. Can you attach your links.cfg (not post) so we can see the entire file?

Uh...I did read your post!!!!

And from what I saw, you had incorrect PATHS, so I provided some advice.

Good luck solving this problem.

Good day!

Steve,

I have a demo script working on windows 2000 server. It took one full day of trouble shooting but I finally got everything to work except the verify portion under admin. The script does work though. Make sure your webhost has cgi scripting enabled. You need to get the administration portion of the program working first. If you are posting to a server with front page extensions, you will have to remove some slashes in front of some of the files in some of the cgi scipts (i.e. add.cgi )

The demo I am playing with, if you would like to take a look at it, is at:

http://search.iw5.net/

I am getting ready to add about 20000 links to it to see how it performs. So, it may be tied up a bit. Just try it later. If I can be of more help let me know.

20,000 links?

You need to upgrade to LINKS SQL.

I'm not sure which route I will take yet.

I may use multiple databases, as someone suggested and use DNS to work out the links to smaller databases. Having my own server and the ability to tweek activeperl gives me a little bit of an advantage over somebody posting to a webhost.

But, Thanks for the offer!
