Major probs switching from one NT host to another.

Anyone seen this one before? Nothing seems to work...

CGI Error
The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers. The headers it did return are:

Can't open perl script "D:\home\lenon\www\links\cgi-bin\admin\admin.cgi": No such file or directory

Does that file exist in that directory? Have you reconfigured your scripts to work with this new hosts servers?

Good Luck!

Well, yes and no. The funny thing is, the other .CGI's work, such as add.cgi, search.cgi --- yada, yada, yada. And, here's another weird one... When you type the address into a browser using the 'www' prefix, you get the CGI error message by itself. When you leave the 'www' off the address, and just use the domain name, the [admin] frames come up with the CGI displayed in each frame of the three frames.

This is a strange one. Since these kinds of problems tend to revolve around the hosting service and their ability, or inability, to properly setup a NT Server, I might as well tell you my new host is ReadyHosting.com. Someone else may have had a similar experience with them.

Oh, yeah, another thing. That path is the path to my old directory. That is, it's the path to the subdirectory at my old hosting service. This continues to come up even though I've changed the path in various files, like links.cfg.

I just figured out a major part of the problem --- probably the whole problem. I did a TRACERT on my domain name with and without the WWW in front of it. When you type in my domain name by itself, it goes to ReadyHost.com. When you add WWW in front of it, it goes to my old hosting service. Anyone even heard of this one before??? Sounds like a problem with the DNS server somewhere. Shouldn't WWW.WHATEVER.COM and WHATEVER.COM point to the same place??? Isn't that the function and purpose of a DNS server??? Something got screwed up during the transfer to the new server, huh???

Man, is this place dead or what?

Cool HELLO??? ANYBODY OUT THERE??? Cool

Anyway, to wrap this thread up, the problem is the DNS cache on my ISP'S server. They're probably using BIND and have it set to refresh at 10000 hrs. Let's see, that's 416 days... Now, all I have to do is convince them to dump it sooner.

The rest of the world is going to the right place, but I tend to code in full path's. Therefore, when I execute the ADMIN.CGI script, it goes to http://www.lenon.com/links/whatever and my ISP's DNS server is executing the scripts at my old host.

BTW, to whom it may concern, Dotster (http://www.dotster.com/programs/dns/) is now allowing the use their DNS servers for only $10 a year. They are one of the few registrars in the world that offer this cool feature, and they refresh once a day. If you don't know what a DNS server is, forget it. I'm through typing to myself Tongue...
