Help with Admin...and everything else!
Hi everyone,

You were right. I can now get into the admin page, but can't add categories etc.

Any ideas?

Here is what my script looks like:

# Paths and URL's to Important Stuff
# --------------------------------------------------------
# PATH and URL of Admin CGI directory. No Trailing Slash.
$db_script_path = "/home/weedbed/public_html/cgi-bin/search/admin";
$db_dir_url = "http://weedbed.virtualave.net/cgi-bin/search/admin";

# URL of User CGI directory. No Trailing Slash.
$db_cgi_url = "http://weedbed.virtualave.net/cgi-bin";

# PATH and URL of Pages to be built. No Trailing Slash.
$build_root_path = "/home/weedbed/public_html/links/pages";
$build_root_url = "http://weedbed.virtualave.net/links/pages";

# PATH and URL of What's New page. No Trailing slash.
$build_new_path = "home/weedbed/public_html/links/New";
$build_new_url = "http://weedbed.virtualave.net/links/New";

# PATH and URL of What's Cool page. No Trailing slash.
$build_cool_path = "home/weedbed/public_html/links/Cool";
$build_cool_url = "http://weedbed.virtualave.net/links/Cool";

# PATH and URL of What's Rating page. No Trailing slash.
$build_ratings_path = "home/weedbed/public_html/links/Ratings";
$build_ratings_url = "http://weedbed.virtualave.net/links/Ratings";

New Guy,

Did you follow my advice and change the permissions of all data files in your /data/ directory to 666 (rw-rw-rw-)?

This is a recording....

And your data directory is set to 777 (rwxrwxrwx)???

Please refer to the README file in the file/directory permission section for what permissions you need to set for files and directories.

Do you even have a categories.db file in your /data/ directory?

Also, make sure that you have 0 in your categoryid.txt file.

Re: Help with Admin...and everything else! In reply to
Well, the problem I see is that you do not even have categories.db or links.db in the /admin/data/ directory.

I just accessed your admin.cgi and then I tried accessing your links.db and categories.db files, and they aren't in the directories you've specified in the links.cfg file.

Hey Elliot,

I have those files in the /admin directorty. Is this the proble? Which files should i move to /admin/data, or change the paths? If so, what path?

Thanks,

New Guy

Change the path...that is easier...Make sure that in all your _name variables (like $db_file_name) at the bottom of the links.cfg file do NOT have the /data directory attached to it.

Hi,

Changed the paths to this, still does not work!

And you have left the $db_script_path pointing to the /home/weedbed/public_html/cgi-bin/search/admin directory, right?

Well, it seems that you have either NOT uploaded the current copy of the links.cfg to your server or you have changed the path in the $db_script_path variable.

BECAUSE...this is the error message I get when I try to add a Category...

Quote:
Error Message : unable to open /home/weedbed/public_html/cgi-bin/search/admin/data/categories.db. Reason: No such file or directory

This shows that the script is still trying to find the files in the /data/ directory.

*sigh*

No...Again you are not using the correct path for the $db_script_path in the links.cfg file....

I am now getting the following error message:

Code:
Error Message : unable to open /home/weedbed/public_html/cgi-bin/search/admin//data/categories.db.

AND you should NOT be getting a blank screen, but an error screen.

Re: Help with Admin...and everything else! In reply to
Again...I am not getting a blank screen but an error screen when I try to add a link in your admin.cgi script:

Code:
Error Message : unable to open /home/weedbed/public_html/cgi-bin/search/admin//data/links.db. Reason: No such file or directory

You need to do the following:

1) Change the following codes in your links.cfg file:

Code:
$db_script_path = "/home/weedbed/public_html/cgi-bin/search/admin/";

to the following:

Code:
$db_script_path = "/home/weedbed/public_html/cgi-bin/search/admin";

YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE A TRAILING SLASH IN THIS VARIABLE.

2) You need to upload all your data files to the following directory:

Code:
/admin/data

3) Change the permission of ALL the data files in this directory to 666 (rw-rw-rw-).

I REALLLY hope this helps!

Regards,
