Error including libraries (about @INC)
When I go to this (http://www.psy-clan.com/...inks/admin/admin.cgi) cgi script I get the folloing error message:

Error including libraries: Can't locate http://www.psy-clan.com/cgi-bin/links/admin/links.cfg in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/5.6.0/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/5.6.0 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.0/i686-linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.0 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl at admin.cgi line 27.

Make sure they exist, permissions are set properly, and paths are set correctly.

the permessions and the paths are set correctly for as far as I can see.

I also changed the folloing in admin.cgi:
require "http://www.psy-clan.com/cgi-bin/links/admin/links.cfg"; Change this to full path to links.cfg if you have problems.

But sadly it still isn't solved. Frown

Greetings,
Manuel

Uh yes because clearly you didn't read the INSTRUCTIONS properly.

require "http://www.psy-clan.com/cgi-bin/links/admin/links.cfg";

Change this to full path to links.cfg if you have problems.

Strange path you got there.....

Is my English humor not transporting well?

I was being sarcastic when I said it was a strange path. I didn't mean it literally like "hm you seem to have a strange path", I meant, "ugh you have a url there not a path"

Or did I miss the point? Or is this just not important? Smile

Do you really think I didn't try that first?????

In the future don't try to impress people with your "vast" knowledge when you don't have the manners to write a normal polite reply that solves something.

Obviously not Wink. When you see instructions asking you to do something do you normally ignore them and do something else?...If so you have no hope of getting Links2 to work. I have laready TOLD you to use a PATH not a URL but if you don't want to listen then, hey, no skin off my nose.

I'm trying to impress nobody, infact I often mention in posts that I am only learning myself, but I am just lucky that I am a fairly quick learner and therefore I TRY to help others by passing on my knowledge. As for politeness, well I'm sorry but when it tells you to use a path right infront of your eyes and you decide to use a URL then I have no sympathy. Sorry but that is MHO.

You know it always astonishes me that people so desperate for help can be so rude. When someone is kind enough to put the answer on a plate infront of your nose then you are all "laughs and smiles" but as soon as you have to do something for yourself or do a bit or research on your own then you can't handle it and get all grumpy. If you aren't willing to work at things yourself then you will never learn and will never get anywhere because people won't be there to hold your hand throughout life.

I have done loads of reading and experimentation to get to know what I know and I am still a beginner compared to some in this forum but I am willing to learn and use trial and error to gain knowledge. Yes I admit I have made posts here for help too and have had some kind people answer them but most of the time I find the answer myself even if it means search YAHOO or GOOGLE. I guess some just want to take the easy way out as the Veterans and senior members well know.......

Don't worry, I won't respond to you as you asked me not to Wink

I do hate to get involved in these pissing matches, having seen enough of these diatribes on virtually every forum that I have come across, but I have I think that I need to weigh in at this point.

First, more often than not, very intelligent programmers are not as articulate communicators as they are articulate programmers. This is very much the case with Links 2.0. I my feeble and as yet unsuccessful attempt to install this program I have found two huge and gaping inconsistencies of syntax in the instructions regarding paths.

Second, I applaud all those who have spent the time to learn the various idiosyncrasies of this program, for some people, myself included, understanding of the details on how this program operates is a very small part of their overall web design issues. Cgi and pearl are fine things to know but so is design and content development each of which requires an equal devotion of time and energy. So, absent a clear and workable blue print, some folks will asked to be indulged by those of greater knowledge and persistence.

Third, and most importantly, the greatest failing of the web as a form of communication is that it does not allow for important aspects of human communication, i.e., body language and intonation the unspoken parts of speech which are absolutely critical in evaluating what the speaker is saying or how what is being said is being received. Icons are no substitute of eye-con-tact.

In short, I believe that many well-intentioned people are not communicating clearly, which is adding to the frustration of all parties involved. And lastly, in advance I would like to thank anyone and everyone who volunteers to give help and guidance to those of us in need of it, but knowledge can build conceit. What may seem simple or obvious to you may be incomprehensible gibberish to another, no matter how many times they have searched the instructions or the forums.

Peace,
